URLs Are Displayed in Search Results

Whenever users search on Google and your page appears in the results, they’ll see your site’s URL, the page’s title link, and a snippet of what the page is about. The URL also shows the folder or directory under which the page is located on your site.

Use Words in URLs

Google recommends that your site’s URLs contain words relevant to your users. The search engine giant typically uses those words to learn the breadcrumbs on your site automatically.

Take this URL, for example:

Compare that URL to this one:

Between these two addresses, which one do you think gives users more context about your page content?

Regarding emojis and dash placements, we recommend redirecting pages with emojis and unnatural dash placements to simple and understandable URLs. This helps promote trust with your users and enhance their overall user experience.

Create a Simple Directory Structure

Accurately Describe the Page’s Content: Create Unique <title> Elements for Each Page

Imagine if we title your online store’s pages with “huge discounts on all products.” Users may find it challenging to look for specific content if all pages they visit have the same title.

One of the ways we ensure that the title describes your page content accurately is by putting distinct text in the page’s <title> element to help describe your content.

For example, your page title can contain your website name or brand and other information about the page.

Use Brief but Descriptive <title> Elements

There’s no limit on how long we want your page’s <title> element to be. However, depending on the device’s width, Google will truncate the title link in the search results as needed.

For this reason, we prefer keeping the <title> element’s text concise but descriptive and avoiding writing unnecessarily long text.
